WALKING IN A GOOD WAY
Gwekwaadsing is a word in Anishinaabemowin that means "walking in a good way." It reflects the prayer we walk with—living in reciprocal relationship with land, waters, culture, community, and all our Kin. Our work aims to support Life through healing, peacemaking, cultural revitalization, and intergenerational learning and leadership.
OUR MISSION
Supporting Life by restoring relationships—with land, culture, community, and one another. Guided by Anishinaabe teachings and serving Indigenous futures, we cultivate healing, peacemaking, and intergenerational learning and leadership while nurturing reciprocal relationships with land, water, and all our Kin.
OUR VISION
We envision communities living in right relationship with one another, the land and waters, and with all our relations. Guided by ancestral wisdom and grounded in the teachings of how to be a human being and walk in a good way, we work toward a future where people and place flourish together.
OUR APPROACH
We believe that healing begins with relationship.
When relationships are restored, stories can be remembered.
When stories are remembered, identity and responsibility are renewed.
When responsibility is renewed, communities become capable of healing, collective action, and care for future generations.
Through peacemaking, storytelling, cultural revitalization, healing justice, land-based learning, ceremony, and relationship-building, we seek to nurture the conditions for healing and renewal so that individuals, families, and communities can more fully care for one another and contribute to the flourishing of the lands and waters that sustain us—helping to cultivate cultures of care for present and future generations.
OUR UNDERSTANDING OF LEADERSHIP
Leadership not as individual achievement, but as responsibility carried in relationship—with community, ancestors, future generations, and the natural world.
Leadership is practiced through listening, humility, reciprocity, and service. We believe that wisdom is held across generations and that healing and transformation emerge through relationships grounded in trust, accountability, and care.
